beginner’s guide: skincare morning regimen

A morning skincare routine doesn't have to be so damn complicated, believe me. I’m going to burst from the amount of gratitude I feel towards endless GRWM (Get Ready With Me) videos from all my favorite Glossier it-girls, but how do we encompass all of those into an easy-to-follow-no-bullshit morning skincare routine?

I got you, just keep reading.

Sometimes more is less and less is more. We are all different kinds of beauty with a variety of skin concerns. Do not fret. It’s not as complicated as it seems. Whether you go full throttle or hold minimal values, I’ve broken down key steps for a simplified morning regimen so you don’t have to fuss. These are the basics, so feel free to follow along or build into your own morning routine vibes.

1. An Unfailing Cleanser
Really try to hone in on your skin issues: are you dry in the morning, oily, combination? There is a cleanser out there for you. We are all different which should be celebrated.

I can’t say this enough: Finding the right cleanser can be difficult, but it’s so worth it when you do. Skincare purchasing can seem like a maze of false marketing and overpriced products, so how do you narrow down what really works for you? I personally don’t know how I would live without my Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel. It fixed my stress acne like “BHAM GIRL YOU ARE GOOD NOW.” Of course I still break out on occasion like an other normal human being, but as long as I wash my face before bed and in the morning, the results are fairly gucci if I do say so myself. Don’t sweat the small stuff!

2. Toner/Exfoliator Alternation
There are different toners for all kinds of skin types but this step is so crucial! Pixie Glow Tonic and Mario Badescu’s Cucumber Cleansing Lotion are some personal favorites. I use Pixie Glow in the morning currently and Glossier’s Solution at night for extra exfoliation. This alternating helps fight redness, dead skin and pores for an overall glow.

Do some research. Know your skin. And enjoy the benefits of toner. Stay dewy my loves.

3. Targeted Serum Is An Anthem
If you have ultra dry skin, adding a serum before your moisturizer is crucial. I had the privilege  of being gifted an amazon gift card so of course spent it on the most expensive vitamin c serum by Drunk Elephant called C-Firma Day Serum. It really does rock my world, but when I’m under the usual 24 year old budget I absolutely love starting the day with Mario Badescu’s Rose Hip Nourishing Oil. It’s lightweight formula works to brighten your skin while providing an extra source of moisture to help smooth any dry patches. It’s kind of like soaking your skin in greatness.

4. Moisturizer Is Key
Another pointer for dry as hell skin problems: Always have the proper moisturizer handy. I don’t know what I would do without Glossier’s Priming Moisturizer Rich. That stuff is what got me hooked on Glossier products to begin with. It’s got an extra surge of moisture that my skin desperately needs. It’s creamy texture is the perfect addition for “priming” your face before makeup application. If you skin isn’t well taken care prior to your makeup, your foundation and concealer will  never go on quite correctly.

So bless up and get your moisturizer on for your own sanity.

5. Sunscreen To Top It All Off
DO NOT LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT SUNSCREEN ON YOUR BEAUTIFUL SKIN. The sun is sneaky and will attack you. Glossier’s Invisible Shield is a cult favorite for it’s light but effective application. It also sits well under your makeup so you don’t have to worry about it being too overbearing.

10/10.

6. DONE - Ready For Makeup
Ah, well that was fun! You’re ready to go out in the world my precious skincare lovers.
